Remembered for setting the world on fire... this day in history...

"I went to a party once, and there was a palm reader there and when she looked at my hand, she just froze. And I said to her "I know. My lifeline is broken. I know I wont live past 30."

On November 16th of 1971, the famed Edie Sedgwick died at the age 28. For those of you that don't know her, she is one of the most fascinating people to cross not only Andy Warhol's path, but the world. She is personally one of my favourite style icons, and a women that I continuously learn about. Read every book about her, I promise you won't regret it. If reading isn't your thing- watch Factory Girl, one of the best movies EVER.

Andy Warhol: I wonder if people are going to remember us?
Edie Sedgwick: What, when were dead?
Andy Warhol: Yeah.
Edie Sedgwick: Well I think people will talk about how you changed
  the world.
Andy Warhol: I wonder what theyll say about you... in your obituary.
  I like that word.
Edie Sedgwick: Nothing nice, I dont think.
Andy Warhol: No no, come on. Theyd say, "Edith Minturn Sedgwick:
  beautiful artist and actress...
Edie Sedgwick: ...and all around loon.
Andy Warhol: ...Remembered for setting the world on fire...
Edie Sedgwick: ...and escaping the clutches of her terrifying
  family...
Andy Warhol: ...Made friends with eeeeverybody, and anybody...
Edie Sedgwick: ...creating chaos and uproar wherever she went.
Divorced as many times as she married, she leaves only good wishes
behind. [laughs] Thats nice, isnt it?

Missing you always. . .

So it has been a long time....

So where do I begin... It has been more than 6 months since my last post and to be frank, it saddens me.

This blog used to be an outlet for all things that amused me.

Then suddenly I abandoned it.

I have wanted to get back into the blogging scene for a quite some time now, but sadly I never made time to do so.

But that's all going to change!

To give you a little catch up on life:

- I am still living in NY

- I moved from the Upper West Side to Nolita and am living with my best friend Nia of liveglamordie.com

- Life is good, all in all. I am still doing the school thing, and interning like a mad women. But the important thing is I love it.

So it was recently my roommate’s birthday (11/11/11), and I threw a little surprise soirée for her and her closest friends. If you know me, then you will know I love to theme ALL PARTIES. I mean what’s better than decorations with meaning and significance? So we decided to throw her a Factory Party. As in replicate Andy's factory from back in the day. Basically we covered my place in tinfoil and transformed it into a silver wonderland... Being on a student budget the rectangular silver balloons(or silver clouds as he preferred to call them) were a wee bit pricey, so instead, I bought these bad boys. I am happy to say that they did the trick.

Pictures taken by Nia, jacket from Zara, top, from Aritzia, necklace by American Apparel, pants from TOPSHOP, shoes from . Zara

Bill Cunningham, I love you.

To all my fashion lovers, GO SEE THIS FILM!!! (for screenings near you click here) Scratch that, even if you are not the biggest fashion fanatic you should see it anyways. It is truly an amazing film, one that will inspire you in an endless amount of ways. This is a documentary, by Richard Press, of the fashion street style photographer for the New York Times, Bill Cunningham. It tells the charming story of the man that writes the Sunday Spread “On the Street” through both his own words and the words of other Fashion Icons like Anna Wintour, Iris Apfel, Tom Wolfe, Anna De la Renta, Patrick McDonald  Brooke Astor, the hilarious Editta Sherman, along with MANY others.   I tell you he leads an extraordinary life. Not in the sense of luxury, because for years he lived in a tiny studio with not even a proper bed to sleep on and he refuses to accept anything from the people and events that he covers. He leads an incredible life because he is so in love with what he does. It is truly all he needs, and kind of all he has. He is such a wonderful man, you can tell, and he is SO BEYOND INTERESTING. Believe me, upon watching the movie you will understand. One thing that resonated with me was the fact that when you look at him,  you would never guess that he is an acclaimed fashion enthusiast judging by solely his appearance. Yet he is the best of the best, and can call and document the trends like no other. I respect this because although he doesn’t wear the flamboyant fashions, he appreciates them, yet still has his own set of style. I feel I am the same in that way. I LOVE seeing and touching all the avante garde garments, statement pieces, and bright bold patterns and colors, but I myself am a Zara Basic kind of girl. I like to keep to the classics when dressing myself. Does it mean that I don’t love those types of fashions? Absolutely not, I just can’t pull it off as well as others can. He is just such an astounding person; I plan on stalking 5th avenue and running into him and his bicycle at some point whilst I am here in NYC. It’s a must. I will leave you all today parting words from himself …

"Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don't think you could do away with it, it would be like doing away with civilization."

Go See It, Get Inspired

Cuffed & Chained.

To close off Paris Fashion Week, we had a titillating show put on by Louis Vuitton. My favourite part of the show was all the accessories. The gloves, the bags were all superb. The best accessory, and most surprising one in my opinion were the handcuffs…. Guess Marc was feeling a little kinky whilst designing this most recent collection. I am a personally a fan, but I don’t really see them transcending off the runway into the street. UNLESS….. you get booked by the cops. Then that’s all whole different story all together, and I doubt that they would be as pretty.

Naturally, I had to show some of the shoes from this collection. This website is called Stepping in Stilettos after all. I am dying over those rubber boots. Now those are my kind of boots, they would have been so helpful over the past couple days here in NYC! The LV monogram heels are just so beautiful and classic. I want, I want, I WANT!

Here are some of my favourite details from the garments that were presented.

LOVING this look from Louis, one of my fav’s for sure! Can we just focus not on the model or the clothes for a second though? LOOK AT THAT MAN’S FACE! He is like “What the hell is she wearing? Those fur sleeves make her look like Big Foot or something.” Little does he know that fur sleeves was one of the biggest trends that we saw this season. Guaranteed he will make more of that face come September. HAHA I love it, oh so much.

Be more fierce, I DARE YOU.

So today at work, a co-worker of mine showed us all this youtube video featuring the band KAZAKY, and to be frank, I am now OBSESSED. The boy band is from the Ukraine and  I can’t get over their fierceness. Like hi, you are wearing heels, and you are more elegant and sharp than I can ever be. I wanna move like them. Plain and simple. They are just soooo sick. I love how they are fusing high fashion, music and dance; my 3 favourite things. It’s beautiful, and they are all truly talented dancers. Their actual songs are not the best, but they are definitely catchy. For all those "techy" dancers you got to watch their “in the middle” music vid, one guy does a CRAY switch split. It is amazeballs. GAWWHHHHHH. Draw dropping. Please watch now and let me know your thoughts!

Come to New York Kazaky! All of the closet where I work will be there too.

Totally in LAHVE. <3 (p.s anyone else drool when you saw their abs, or was it just me?)

Wrap It Up.

This past weekend, I took a little time to actually live and get out of the confinements of school, home and work. Amidst my little journey in the East Village with my friend from Live Glam or Die, we stopped at a little hat store. Inside I found a vintage Missoni turban, I died. I had to have it! I will post some pictures of it very soon, so be excited! Anyway else rock the turban?

Piece by Piece.

Ahhhh Sarah Burton does the McQueen house justice yet again! Her collection was absolutely mesmerizing. Make sure to view all 34 looks at style.com. Through out the runway performance it is evident that she continued on with her meticulous form and craft, but this time around I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Her pieces were structured yet full of fluidity. She yet again made the house collection have a feminine flare yet still kept the underlining basis of drama present. Bravo Sarah Burton!

My favourite pieces were 2 dresses. The corset bodices looked like thousands of pieces of porcelain glass glued together, like a picturesque mosaic. The entire garment is truly a piece of art. Did I mention the shoes! OMG, I want I want I want!!!!!! The wedge is just so extravagant. Have you noticed how there is no heel?

This is just so beyond anything, I am sure that Alexander is looking down smiling, knowing that he has left his legacy in the hands of an outstanding designer who has definitely proved herself.

This collection tugged at my heart, piece by piece.

Bittersweet.

What a bittersweet time in fashion history. We are celebrating and admiring the beauty and skill of excellent designs, yet all the while we are left with sorrow as we witness the death of a brilliant fashion career. For those who don’t know, John Galliano, the head designer of Christian Dior and his own house was fired in this last week due to an altercation and anti–semantic comments that he made while he was in a drunken stoop. It’s sad that this scandal has taken the focus away from the exquisite work that has been put forth on the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

In my opinion his two collections that were presented for the fall/winter season were incredible. I sit here wanting spring weather to arrive, but I can’t help but to yearn for fall fashions. The collection for Christian Dior was fabricated with lustrous textiles that were amplified by rich hues such as warm burgandys, and deep greens and ocean blues. The total tone transcended a sense of true luxury. I loved it. This feeling carried onto his own collection where he also was inspired by the beauty and theatrics of the 1930’s. Overall my favourite looks from both collections are posted above, I hope you enjoy them.  I am obsessing over the fur accents and the accessories that take us back to a different era.

So who is going to replace this genius in these famed houses?I guess we just have to wait and see!

Till next time!
